A recent report claims that rental properties within the UK have higher rent rates than any other part of Europe.
This research was carried out by the online portal Easyroommate, who analysed 33,000 properties being rented in the UK, France, Spain and Italy. The study claims that the average rent paid for a room in the UK is at £360pcm and this cost of renting is 5% higher than in France, which has been reported as the second most expensive place in Europe at £342. Spain stands as the cheapest at £230.
Jonathan Moore, spokesperson at Easyroommate, stated:"Flat sharers in the UK face much higher bills at the end of the month than their European counterparts. The combination of unaffordably high house prices with the ongoing lending crunch in the UK is leaving hundreds of thousands of frustrated buyers dependent on rental accommodation."
The study also suggests that people spend approximately 15% of their gross earnings on accommodation, compared to 14% in France & Italy and 12% in Spain.
