Mortgage providers increasing age limit to 85

Posted on Monday, May 9, 2016

Nationwide said it will increase its current maximum 75 year age limit by 10 years from July.

The announcement comes as Halifax raises its age limit for mortgages from 75 to 80 from this month.

Nationwide said its change will enable pensioners borrow well into retirement should they wish.

The changes made by Halifax and Nationwide are in response to the countires changing demographic as people are working and living for longer. Lenders have been asked to do more to help older customers and it appears that they are now slowly listening.
